Vague assignment became historic day for Beatles photographer Tom Murray

Tom Murray was a photographer for the UK Sunday Times in 1968 when he got work of a photo assignment to shoot some unnamed musical group. It turned out to be the Beatles.

His photos were taken on a quiet Sunday afternoon in 1968 in London. A photo from the session, called “Summer of ‘68 — the Mad Day,” of Paul McCartney (see picture) is being auctioned this week for charity.

Murray says the session fell together almost by accident.

It may be hard to believe, but Sir Paul McCartney, one of two surviving members of The Beatles and arguably the game-changing foursome’s most successful solo graduate, is the only Beatle who doesn’t have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The 69-year-old has certainly seen his share of nominations over the years, and even participated in honoring two of his bandmates, Ringo Starr in 2010 and George Harrison in 2009, eight years after the guitarist died in 2001 - both stars, along with John Lennon’s and one for The Beatles, have a permanent home in Hollywood outside the Capitol Records building near Hollywood and Vine - but the dedication ceremony has eluded him, mostly due to scheduling difficulties.

NEXT FOR RINGO: After this week’s media appearances, Ringo Starr says he’ll start getting ready to promote his All-Starr Band tour. In a video update posted before his Sirius radio special Monday, he said, as he did on Monday during the SiriusXM Radio Town Hall, that he won’t announce the new All-Starrs just yet, though he indicated the lineup is set. He also called the band Monday a new edition of the Roundheads, which he’d used on various projects before. Ringo was on “The Late Late Show” With Craig Ferguson” Monday night. He was quite at ease with Ferguson. You can see a brief clip from the show at left.

Yet, it`s still possible that Ringo and Paul can reunite in some kinetic interactive symbiosis of popish tune-smithing in very short order. *(Well, you know what me means by Beatling!) Deep in the master tracks of “Here Comes The Sun” from 1969′s Abbey Road, Dhani stumbles upon a lost solo from his father’s ballad.
It completely changes the texture of the song, not to mention how freakin’ cool it is.
It’s chilling, but doesn’t compare to the moment when George Martin turns to Dhani and says, “You’re like your father.”
